Projects

Group spend by product, division or environment, each with its own connections, figures, currency and keys.

A project groups the spend of one product, division or environment. Each has its own connections, figures, budgets, allocation rules, cost centers, reports and API keys, and the organization sees them side by side. Every organization starts with one, named Default.

Create a project

Owners and admins create projects in Settings, Projects, with New project. Give it a name, an optional description, and the currency its figures are shown in. How many projects an organization can have depends on its plan.

Edit a project

Choose Edit project from a project's menu to change its name, description or display currency. The edit dialog also shows the project ID, to copy for the CostReveal API. Changing the display currency changes only how amounts are shown: what each provider billed is always kept in the currency it was billed in, and other currencies are converted at the European Central Bank's reference rates.

From the same menu, Tag keys sets which resource tags name each team, feature, customer and user, and Custom dimensions adds the project's own, such as environment. See Custom dimensions.

Who sees a project

Owners and admins see every project. Members, viewers and billing members see only the projects they are granted, in Settings, Team and roles. See Team and roles.

Delete a project

Choose Delete project and type its name to confirm. This permanently removes the project with its connections and every figure they brought in, its budgets, allocation rules, cost centers, reports and API keys, and every member's access to it. It cannot be undone. An organization always keeps at least one project.

To stop reading a provider without losing its figures, revoke the access in the provider instead: CostReveal keeps every figure already read.
